20 Questions, 15 Correct to Pass
The Oklahoma written test has 20 questions. You pass the written test by answering 15 of the 20 questions correctly.
The online written test has a 60-minute time limit, and you get your result as soon as you finish. These rules are set by Service Oklahoma and can change, so confirm them before you go.
Where You Take the Written Test
You take the Oklahoma written test through Service Oklahoma, either online or in person at a Service Oklahoma location. There is no extra fee to take the written test online.
The online written test needs a computer with a webcam, a microphone and a stable internet connection. Phones and touch screen devices are not supported.
If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must be present to verify your identity before the online test begins. Service Oklahoma says the online written test is only available in English at this time.
ProDrive Academy gives the official road test, which is a separate step that comes after the written test.
What the Written Test Covers
The written test checks what you know about driving in Oklahoma. It covers four areas.
- Oklahoma traffic laws
- Road rules
- Road signs
- Safe driving practices
How to Study for the Written Test
Study the Oklahoma Driver Manual before the written test. Service Oklahoma publishes the manual and a practice test on its website.
What Happens If You Do Not Pass
If you do not pass the written test, you can take it again. Service Oklahoma lets you take the written test as many times as you need.
You can take the online written test two times. After two failed online tests, you must take the written test in person at a Service Oklahoma location.
Service Oklahoma adds a $4 fee for each failed written test. You pay those fees when your learner permit is issued.
What to Bring
For an in-person written test, bring your birth certificate or your Oklahoma ID. After you pass the written test, bring these items to a Service Oklahoma location or a Tag Agency to apply for your learner permit.
You also take a vision test at that visit. Check Service Oklahoma's current document list before you go.
- Your primary ID
- Your Social Security number. The physical card is not required.
- A parent or legal guardian, if you are under 18
- Proof that you are enrolled in or have completed driver education, if that applies to you
- Name change and immigration documents, if they apply to you
When Driver Education Replaces the Written Test
Service Oklahoma may waive the written test if you bring a driver education completion certificate from a commercial or public school course. Parent-taught driver education does not waive the written test.
